After completing my secondary level of education; I had a great desire to join the University with an aim of quenching my thirst for Higher Education knowledge. In my pursuit to get here, there have been a few misconceptions about university life conditioned over time. I have found out that some are true while some are preposterous lies generated in good strides to motivate high school students.

Some of these lies have gained dignity over time and are now considered true, most are outrageous lies that mislead everyone just to end up disappointed when they get here due to ignorance and crowd mentality.I have witnessed some of these lies being practiced. To me I can say I have been lucky. They say ; if you want to affect change , you have to start at the roots. Here are a few things i have known about being a university student:Read also Things you see at Kenyatta University on a Friday night.

It is true there is freedom at the university; you choose what course to pursue, you choose whether to attend classes or not, you choose the type of people you want to always hung out with, you choose your own meal and above all you choose whether to go on Friday night parties or not.In short, campus life is full of choices. There is freedom alright; but not freedom from your choices.

To me, making it to the university is a hopeful en devour. Sometimes I may be either flat broke or my budget may be so tight and getting tighter by every shillings spent. The challenge I have is that no one cares the brand of phone you are using, all they want is for you to reply their text in a timely manner.

I have also learnt that when my high school teacher said '' wasichana watajiletaa'', she din't mean that I'll be assigned to a girlfriend with my admission letter. She meant it was an eventuality; that it will happen way later in life, not immediately after the release of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education ( KCSE) result.

Most of these misconceptions are just a bunch of hokum, university is a fun place to be, you live your life the way you dream fit,you don't let anyone dictate it for you, not your parents, not even the society.Campus life is lived out of personal choices and guidelines.
